Gobble! Gobble! Gobble! Come Thanksgiving Day, who said that there can only be one turkey around the house? Having a Turkey costume can add so much more fun during this event. Preparing for this year’s Thanksgiving celebration can never be too early. Turn yourself into a festive holiday turkey with some costume options below.
Benjamin Franklin once said that, “The turkey is a much more respectable bird and withal a true original Native of North America.” He even stretched his high opinion of this fowl as he was in favor of making Turkey the American national bird instead of the Bald Eagle. Moreover, turkey has always been the focal piece in a Thanksgiving dinner. But before it has become the ultimate special dish traditionally served during this occasion, its way to the table is rather intriguing as well. Although there is no concrete proof that this scrumptious bird was served at the first celebration of the Pilgrim, it has become an indispensable part of the Thanksgiving tradition.
Furthermore, the practice of serving Turkey is rooted in the History of Plymouth Plantation. It was written by William Bradford approximately more than two decades after the actual celebration. It was alleged that Bradford sent a letter to another Pilgrim, Edward Winslow. In his letter, he described how he sent out men to go fowling. These men returned with turkeys, ducks and geese which then became the main courses in their feast. Regrettably, such Bradford document was lost after the War of Independence with the British Troops. When it was rediscovered in 1854, the Turkey has unofficially turned out to be the most popular symbol of Thanksgiving Day.

If you have enough time and patience to do your won Turkey costume, below are some easy steps in carrying out this project. You will need oversized brown shirt that is about two to three sizes bigger than your size, old or new skin toned stockings, tights, paints in red, gold and brown colors, face paint, paper plate, strings, puncher, scissors, fake feathers and strong hold glue. The first thing you have to do is to paint the stockings with red paint. Cut it up lengthwise to serve as your neck. Cut a triangle from the paper plate which will serve as your beak. You decide on the size but make sure that it will fit the bridge of your nose. Punch holes on both of its sides and attach strings on each hole. Stick some feathers on your shirt. When you are finished gluing the feathers on your shirt, paint each feather with red and gold paint to have more effect. Wear the tights as is.
To have a more authentic turkey look, you might want to try stuff your suit with some pieces of cloth and/or foamy material. A fuller body will make you look a really mouthwatering and delightful fowl on the loose.
A Turkey costume will be a sure fire in any Thanksgiving party or even any costume event. Practice the Turkey walk and gobble away!
